EUGENE, Ore. - Around 1,000 University of Oregon students are finding out if they will receive their SNAP benefits. With more than 5,000 students already facing food insecurity, the situation is concerning.

The potential loss of benefits could force students to choose between their education and putting food on the table. In response, the university's student government is launching a "SNAP Benefits Emergency Plan."

The plan involves collecting food donations, purchasing non-perishables, and distributing food donation information flyers. ASUO leaders say this initiative reflects their understanding of the daily stressors students face.
