BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. (WNDU) - As of right now, millions of people are awaiting a decision on SNAP benefits.
On Friday, two federal judges stated that the government is required to pay for SNAP through contingency funds; but the Trump administration is seeking clarity on how exactly to legally do that.
Meaning there could still be delays in SNAP assistance, which was supposed to go out today.
“We have families who are in need in Berrien County who are panicking,” said Berrien Community Foundation Program Director Susan Matheny. “They’re worried. They’re afraid they’re not going to be able to feed their children or feed their elderly.”
So that’s why the Berrien Community Foundation is partnering with local organizations to bring nonperishable food to pantries across the county.
