Minneapolis — Michigan State came to Minnesota searching far and wide for a spark to finally break out of its five-game losing streak. Bench the starting quarterback. Throw in a third-string offensive lineman. All to find something, anything that would work.

Though Saturday’s game at Minneapolis’ Huntington Bank Stadium was an ugly one, it was a lot closer to a win than Michigan State has gotten as of late. Led by a backup quarterback, its third string running back and a defense playing through injuries, Michigan State fell to Minnesota in overtime, 23-20.
