BOSTON — Massachusetts leaders are bracing for the impact of food stamp benefits running dry for more than 1.1 million residents amid the ongoing government shutdown.
Gov. Maura Healey announced Thursday that the state will fast-track a $4 million payment to help replenish regional food pantries that are expecting increased demand beginning this weekend. She said the state will work with nonprofits and the business community to provide food for those losing benefits but won’t tap into reserve funds to help keep benefits flowing.
