BELFAST, Maine — More and more Maine businesses and organizations are stepping up as concern grows over the uncertainty surrounding SNAP benefits.
In Waldo County, three local groups joined forces Saturday for a community food drive called “Stuff the Cruiser.” The event brought together the Randal Collins Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) , the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, and the Belfast Police Department to collect food and cash donations from community members.
“My son and I went and bought like 200 hundred dollars' worth of food for you guys,” Swanville resident Nicki Arland said as she unloaded cans from her car.
All the donations are going to help local families and veterans, especially those struggling as SNAP benefits remain in limbo.
