NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — With Veterans Day around the corner, the Iwo Jima Memorial Historical Foundation hosted their yearly Field of Flags tribute in New Britain Saturday morning to honor the sacrifices of servicemen and women.
The ceremony remembered the history of the battle and gave thanks to the people who paved the way for freedom.
More than 1,000 American flags were placed on the lawn of the memorial this year. Each flag was dedicated by loved ones of those who have served.
"I got a flag for Joe Caminiti because he's just an amazing person. In his honor, but also because it's a fundraiser for this organization. It's amazing when people support veterans like they do," Vanessa Barneschi said.
