New Delhi, Nov 02: Coal India’s production grew nearly tenfold from 79 million tonnes (MT) in 1975 to 781 MT by the end of FY 2025, alongside a supply increase from 78 MT to 763 MT.
Established on November 1, 1975, as a Maharatna Public Sector Undertaking, Coal India Limited (CIL) is one of India’s largest employers with over 2.2 lakh employees.
The fastest growth in production occurred in the last decade, rising from 494 MT in FY 2014-15 to 781 MT in FY 2024-25, accounting for 41% of the total 702 MT increase. CIL also reported a 40% rise in coal off-take during this period.
Furthermore, CIL is diversifying into renewable energy with plans to set up 3000 MW solar power plants by FY 2028 and exploring coal gasification and critical mineral acquisitions.
