TERRE HAUTE – At the beginning of the season, Concordia sophomore Daphne Weller set a goal for herself: finish in the top five at the state finals.
She did exactly that on Saturday, placing fifth in 17:34.16 to lead the Cadets to second place in the team standings with 129 points, just 29 points behind state champion Carmel. Concordia was one of three local teams to finish on the podium at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, as the Homestead boys placed third in their best-ever team showing and the Spartans girls were fourth.
"I'm just really happy. Our team all ran amazing today, and I'm just glad I could come out here, give it my all, and find joy in the process," Weller said.
Indian Creek senior Libby Dowty won the girls race in 17:10.16, nearly matching her performa
