The WPIAL girls volleyball championships, held Saturday at Peters Township's AHN Arena, featured three teams that were making their first appearances in a title match and another team that was hoping for its first title.

The finals also featured a rematch in all four classes, as the finalists had each faced off during the regular season. In fact, two were rubber matches, as the opponents had faced off twice during section play.

A new champion was crowned in all four classes, as none of the reigning champions made it back to the finals.

And none of the champions were seeded No. 1 in their bracket. In fact, one of the champions was a double-digit seed.

The four champions were: Peters Township (Class 4A), Beaver Area (Class 3A), Avonworth (Class 2A) and Eden Christian (Class 1A).
