ATLANTA — The federal government shutdown is nearing its 31st day, and lawmakers remain at a standstill over a new spending bill. At the center of the fight remains health insurance policy.

Sara Vinson of Covington said she reached out to Sen. Raphael Warnock’s office after receiving a shocking health insurance quote.

“Couldn’t believe the increases I was going to see,” Vinson said.

Vinson and her husband buy their coverage through the Affordable Care Act marketplace. She said their plan costs are at risk of increasing dramatically.

“This year we’re paying about $1,100 a month and we have a $3,000 deductible,” she said. “If we were to keep the same plan next year, we would be paying about $3,500 a month with a $4,000 deductible.”
