Reigning state champion South Plaquemines played well enough to keep its spot atop the LHSAA power ratings — but the win did not come easily.

Three fourth-quarter touchdowns cushioned what had been a one-point lead as senior Roderick Parker threw three touchdown passes — two of them to eighth-grader Eyan Taylor — and ran for a score against Cohen in a 41-26 victory Saturday at Pan American Stadium.

The teams were tied 14-all midway through the third quarter and South Plaquemines scored four touchdowns on four consecutive possessions to seal the win that set up the district-deciding showdown against Newman in Week 10.
