DALLAS COUNTY, Iowa —
Sure, carving pumpkins is fun. But have you ever tried launching them 1,000 feet out of an 8-foot-long cannon?
Cary Knight did. He and his family owned Patch's Pumpkins near Adel for years. A highlight for many visitors was watching the homemade, air-powered cannon shoot pumpkins into a field a quarter-mile away. Some shots had a hang time over 10 seconds or more.
