The Toronto Blue Jays are on the brink of a World Series title and are hosting what is expected to be the largest 50/50 draw in baseball history. The jackpot is projected to exceed $7.5 million. Fans have until Sunday to purchase tickets for the draw.
Joe Carter, a five-time MLB All-Star known for his walk-off home run that clinched the 1993 World Series for the Blue Jays, will announce the winner of the jackpot. As of Thursday afternoon, the 50/50 jackpot had already surpassed $6.3 million.
The raffle is organized to support the Jays Care Foundation. According to the event's promotional materials, “Jays Care’s 50/50 raffle is the biggest 50/50 in Major League Baseball and the ultimate win-win for you.” Half of the proceeds from ticket sales will go to the grand prize, while the other half will fund Jays Care programs in communities across Ontario and Nova Scotia.
The foundation aims to leverage the sport of baseball to improve the lives of youth facing various challenges. This includes children with physical and cognitive disabilities, Indigenous youth, and young people who may not have the opportunity to engage in organized sports.
“Through its life-changing programming, Jays Care is building a Canada where kids of all backgrounds and all abilities have a place on a team where they belong,” organizers stated.
Jays Care assures that every dollar of net revenue, after deducting prize payouts and raffle-related expenses, directly supports its programs for children. The organization provides transparent financial summaries to ensure supporters understand how their contributions are utilized.
To participate in the raffle, individuals must be at least 18 years old and located in Ontario or Nova Scotia. Tickets can be purchased online, with five tickets available for $10, and discounts for larger purchases.
The Blue Jays are returning to Toronto with a 3-2 Series lead after winning two consecutive games against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium. They have a chance to secure the championship in front of their home crowd at the Rogers Centre on Friday night.
