DURANGO, Colo. —

It took the city of Durango to remind us that Halloween doesn't always have to be scary.

Dubbed a "coven of wading witches" by city officials, these unmistakable spellbinders traded in their broomsticks for paddles, all the better to propel their boards through chilly waters.

It was nothing less than "standup paddle sorcery," witnesses said.
