OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- As the clocks change this weekend, Judy Kashka is telling the story of her granddaughter Taylor Jackson to remind people about another change in their home.
“It's your worst nightmare to bury a child, much less a grandchild. It just You don't think it's ever going to be you,” she said.
Taylor was 8 years old, and in October of 2011, went to a sleepover at a friend’s house where she had stayed before. A fire started in the attic.
“The little girl Taylor spent the night with, woke up coughing and couldn't get Taylor awake,” Kashka said. “So, she went downstairs to get her mother. And by the time her mother heard her screaming and got over there, they couldn't get in and get Taylor out.”
