MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - With uncertainty surrounding federal SNAP benefits, a wave of generosity is rippling through Madison as local businesses find their own ways to help feed their neighbors.
At Baked Wings & Things on State Street, owner Marti McKinney says she couldn’t stay silent after hearing that families might not receive their food-assistance payments on time.
“It’s absolutely heartbreaking,” McKinney said. “Food insecurity is something that people do struggle with. As a social worker for many, many, many years, watching that is very difficult. And you want to help everyone, and you can’t help everyone, but you can do your part and come together with other people and help to feed those in need when there is a need.”
