VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 72-year-old man was killed and his 73-year-old passenger was critically injured in a two-vehicle crash in Volusia County on Saturday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened on S.R. A1A near Sandpiper Ridge Drive around 6 p.m.

According to a crash report, a Chevrolet Corvette was behind a Jeep Wrangler traveling north on S.R. A1A, approaching Sandpiper Ridge Drive.

Troopers said the Corvette tried to pass the Wrangler in a no-passing zone and as a result, the front of the Chevrolet collided into the back of the Jeep.
