For much of Saturday’s matchup in Berkeley, it appeared that Virginia might finally record a comfortable victory for the first time since its rout of Stanford in September. But with less than a minute remaining, the Cavaliers’ lead had narrowed to just three points, and California had possession deep in its own territory.
Junior linebacker Kam Robinson ensured the suspense didn’t last. Robinson intercepted Cal quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele’s first-down pass and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown, sealing a 31–21 victory for No. 15 Virginia.
With the win, Virginia improved to 8–1 overall and 5–0 in ACC play, marking its best start since 1990 and its first-ever 5–0 conference record in a single season. The victory also marked the program’s first win on the West Coast.
