PLAINVIEW, Texas (KCBD) - The Wayland Baptist Pioneers (6-2, 5-2) keep enjoying their best season in years. On Saturday at Greg Sherwood Memorial Stadium, they earned their sixth-consecutive win downing Nelson University 45-27.
With 12 seconds left in the first half, the Lions held a 21-12 lead. That was until Pioneer QB Khalon Davis completed a 13-yard touchdown to Maddox Plazek to make it a 21-18 game. The score also became the first of 33 unanswered points for Wayland.
Davis also passed for 289 yards and two other touchdowns. Pioneer running back Keomodre Horace registered another strong performance with 107 yards on 18 carries, and one touchdown.
This game was WBU’s home finale this season, but the Pioneers will close out their regular season on Nov. 15 at Texas Wesleyan University.
