Monica Gray and her family, who arrived at the Catalina Resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica, on Thursday, Oct. 23, for a birthday celebration, are now stranded as the resort has become unsafe and damaged.
"Right now, like they said, it is very unsafe. My mom is facing stage 4 breast cancer right now. It is very unsafe. We have water bubbles that have busted in the room," Dominique Peters said.
The family reported that hotel staff are doing everything they can to assist, but their rooms are filled with mold, and each time it rains, employees and guests are left manually scooping out water. They noted that residents from the UK and Canada have received help from their countries, and they are now hoping for assistance from the U.S. to return home.
