The Citadel quarterback Quentin Hayes threw for 175 yards and three touchdowns as the Bulldogs rallied with 28 fourth quarter points to beat VMI 35-24 before a crowd of 11,127 at Johnson Hagood Stadium on Nov. 1.
The Citadel wide receiver Jihad Marks had 168 receiving yards, while Cobey Thompkins rushed for 101 yards in the victory for the Bulldogs.
VMI appeared to put the game out of reach after Ben Shewsbury gave the Keydets a 24-7 advantage with 14:58 to play in the game.
But Hayes scored on a 6-yard TD run, then hit Marks for a 72-yard scoring strike to pull the Bulldogs to within 24-21 with 10:36 to play.
Garrison Johnson added an 11-yard TD run and Marks finished off the game with a 33-yard TD reception with 12 seconds left in regulation.
