In the stampede that occurred here on the morning of November 1, 10 people died and many were injured. The accident happened around 11:30 AM when devotees were climbing towards the sanctum sanctorum on the first floor of the temple.
Every Saturday, 1,500 to 2,000 devotees visit the Venkateswara Temple located in Kasibugga town of Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh, but due to Ekadashi and Kartik month, the crowd had unusually increased.
This temple was opened just four months ago. It has been built on the lines of the famous Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, which is why it is called ‘Chinna Tirupati’ (Mini Tirupati).
