GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - A powerful welcome back took place in Green Bay on Saturday, as hundreds of people lined up at Austin Straubel International Airport to greet area veterans as they returned from Washington, D.C. and a day of touring monuments and memorials in their honor.
“It was nice to see all the monuments and everything, but what I liked most was coming back. All the support and everything for our service,” said Tom Sawall.
Tom Sawall is one of 51 veterans who soaked in the cheers from the community, with signs showing love and American flags raised high, even bringing some to tears.
These veterans received a warm welcome home from the community, and that’s a stark contrast from the welcome they received when they returned home from the Vietnam War in the 1970s
