The field of dreams mantra lives on with the Matiland Athletics Centre providing the perfect venue for the NSW pipe band championships on Sunday.

It's the second time Maitland has hosted the event, and some of the state's and nation's best pipe and drum bands came to compete.

The field was world-class, with the elite Knox Grammar College and The Scots College bands among those competing in the junior classes.

The Scots College came third at the world titles in Scotland this year.

There were numerous bands from Sydney, but being based in Maitland it allowed bands from rural areas to come and compete as well.
