KNOXVILLE - The SEC’s best offense, the SEC’s best defense. Something had to give Saturday night at Neyland Stadium.
Oklahoma’s heralded defense gave up 456 yards on 80 plays but rode its sure-footed kicker and its mobile quarterback to a 33-27 win over Tennessee. The loss keeps the Sooners’ playoff hopes alive as they move to 7-2 overall and 3-2 in the SEC. Tennessee’s hopes of a return trip to the playoffs are now most likely over as they fall to 6-3, 3-3 in league play. Saturday’s loss was the first time UT has lost a home game to someone not named Georgia since October 16, 2021 when they were downed by Ole Miss in the infamous “mustard game”.
OU quarterback John Mateer only threw for 159 yards, but it was his legs that gave Tennessee fits as he ran 16 times for 80 yards. Xavier Robin
