DES MOINES, Iowa —
Halloween spirit is in full swing across the metro, with costumes, candy and creepy decorations filling the night. But one home at Park Avenue and 34th Street is taking the celebration to another level.
Carol Grote has spent the past eight years transforming her yard into a haunted attraction — complete with motion-sensor monsters, eerie lights and plenty of spooky surprises.
“The kids just love it,” Grote said. “They get so excited when they see us starting to build things.”
Grote begins her setup in mid-September to ensure everything is ready for the big night. While some little ones get startled, she says most find it more fun than frightening.
“Some of the little kids get scared, but mostly they think it’s fun,” she said.
