PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Around 400,000 people in Arizona received their health care through the ACA marketplace in 2025. As they look for coverage in 2026, they are facing serious changes that are forcing tough choices between higher costs and fewer coverage options.
“We were expecting an increase, we knew it was going to be substantial, so it wasn’t surprising, it’s very disappointing that our rates are going up,” Darryl Komesu said.
Komesu, who lives in Scottsdale, retired in 2017 and has had health insurance through the ACA marketplace since then.
The debate over the Affordable Care Act, specifically the extension of tax credits, is a major reason the government is shut down. Republicans argue that extending the tax credits is too expensive , while Democrats say without them monthly
