CORVALLIS — It was shaping up to be a display of historic incompetence. Another example of a season gone horribly wrong, and an offense that couldn’t figure it out.
Yet Oregon State strode off the field Saturday victorious, a 10-7 winner over Washington State , thanks to a breakout defensive performance and late missed field goal.
“That was a hell of a lot of fun,” interim coach Robb Akey said. “To see our guys smiling the way they are right now was really, really cool. To see them overcome adversity, fight themselves through it, find a way to finish, they took some steps and moved forward.”
The Beavers (2-7) barely moved forward with the ball, compiling just 208 yards. A quarterback change did them no favors, and Gabarri Johnson ended up getting injured early in the second half aft
