LEXINGTON, Ky. —

The Valkyries are state champions again. Sacred Heart Academy shut out Highlands 3-0 to win back-to-back state soccer titles, becoming the first program to do so since West Jessamine in 2016-17.

Senior Mia Lancaster, the team’s leading scorer, added two more goals to her season total to help lead the Valkyries to a state-record ninth championship, breaking a tie with South Oldham High School (eight) for the most in state history.

“It means everything,” Lancaster said. “It just shows how much work we’ve put in this season, and I’m so glad that it has paid off.”

The Valkyries’ defense posted its 20th shutout of the season. Senior goalkeeper Amira Hendrick recorded one save in the title game.

Sacred Heart finished the season with a 23-2-1 record.
