A Shahjahanpur court on Friday sentenced 35-year-old labourer Anil, alias Chameli, to death after finding him guilty of raping two minor sisters and murdering the elder child. The court described the crime as a “rarest of the rare” case. Anil has been in custody since his arrest shortly after the incident in February 2021.
According to the prosecution, on February 22, 2021, the two sisters, aged five and seven, went to a water tap nearrape their village primary school and did not return. Family members later found them unconscious in a field on the village outskirts and rushed them to hospital. Doctors declared the elder sister dead on arrival, while the younger child was admitted for treatment. Both children had sustained head injuries, the police said.
