SAN DIEGO (KSWB/KUSI) — Governor of California Gavin Newsom made a stop in San Diego on Friday, speaking at the United Domestic Workers headquarters to rally support for Proposition 50, a statewide ballot measure he says will protect California’s voice in Congress.
"Thank you for all that you have done to get us this close to victory," Newsom told the crowd.
Prop 50 would allow California to redraw its congressional maps mid-decade, a move Newsom says is needed to counter gerrymandering in other states that could shift political power in Washington.
"This is a trigger in response to what occurred, which is simply not justifiable in Texas," he said.
