EXETER, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Families all over the Central Valley found out Saturday that their SNAP benefits were not loaded into their accounts. The lapse in food aid comes after orders from two federal judges to provide emergency funding to the program amid the ongoing government shutdown.
Foodlink for Tulare County, an Exeter-based nonprofit food bank which aims to create a healthy and hunger free Tulare County, tells YourCentralValley.com that they only have enough food to hold daily distributions through the end of the year.
"Usually you get a, you know, a crowd of like 250 people. And we hit 500. And that's more reminiscent of like COVID like numbers," FoodLink for Tulare County Executive Director Andrea Kelly said.
