Georges Zadeyan used to wake his children early in the morning and whisk them to his restaurant, the French Pastry Shop, to have breakfast with him.
They sat at the same table, at the same seats, watching their dad sip espresso and counting the number of croissants he would tuck away.
“Break the record every time,” son Sarkis Zadeyan said.
The French Pastry Shop has been a mainstay on the Plaza for about half a century. So too has Georges Zadeyan, who even after passing the business onto his son brought a familiar smile to the spot in La Fonda.
Georges Zadeyan died Oct. 9. He was 82 and is survived by his wife, Nancy, who worked by his side at the cafe, three children and five grandchildren.
