The New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department has scores of reform projects to work on but is struggling to make progress due to a lack of strategy and coordination, according to a report obtained by The New Mexican .
The September report, obtained through a public records request and completed under a contract between the state and New York-based consulting firm Alvarez & Marsal Public Sector Services LLC, identifies an array of problems, including several specifically focused on the department’s project management practices.
Staff interviewed for the report said they were concerned about the volume of projects CYFD has to work on and the lackluster communication about developments in them, adding the agency lacked strategy in making progress.
