A startling new survey has revealed that approximately three in four households in the Delhi‑NCR region — including Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad — currently have at least one person suffering from a viral illness due to the worsening air pollution.
The deteriorating air quality with seasonal infection has created a serious public-health issue in the national capital and neighbouring areas, as per the survey conducted by community platform LocalCircles.
The survey, based on responses from 15,000 participants, found that 75% of houses had a sick person, up from 56% only a month ago. Many of those illnesses were linked to viral infections, including the H3N2 strain, and flu-like symptoms at a time when residents' respiratory systems are also being harmed by toxic air.
