The Dallas Mavericks and the Detroit Pistons had their first meetup this season on Saturday at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City. With several key players missing and Anthony Davis again injured, the Mavericks entered the game with a 2-3 record, while the Pistons had won 3 games of their last five games.

Pistons took an early 15-1 lead with Jalen Duren dominating the floor. The Mavericks’ promising core answered with five threes to end the first quarter with a 30-27 lead. However, the Pistons then went on a 21-2 run, but the Mavericks recovered to lead 61-59 at halftime.

D’Angelo Russell got 22 points through three quarters to help his team lead 93-87 at the end of the third quarter. Duren continued to shine for the Pistons with 25 points and kept the game close heading into the final period
