A James Bond–inspired Day of the Dead Parade was celebrated on Saturday in Mexico City.

Not a traditional celebration, the parade was inspired by the 2015 Bond film Spectre and has since become an annual event in the city.

Thousands of people marched alongside giant floats, accompanied by music and colorful costumes.

This year, more than 8,000 participants paid homage primarily to pre-Hispanic Mexican culture.

For Mexico City residents like Paola Villalobos, a 35-year-old marketing professional, encountering so many foreign visitors was a pleasant surprise.

"Day of the Dead is my favorite holiday of the year because of this genuine belief we Mexicans have—that our loved ones who have passed away come to visit us," she said.
