Former India women's cricket team captain Shantha Rangaswamy recalled the early days of hardship faced by women’s players ahead of India’s ODI World Cup final against South Africa. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led team is set to take on the Proteas at the DY Patil Stadium on Sunday, November 2.

India defeated the seven-time champion Australia in the semi-final of the tournament and will now face Laura Wolvaardt’s side in the title clash. The Indian team not only had to overcome the mighty Australian challenge on the field, but they also had to fight against sexism and misogyny off the field.

During the group-stage encounters, the Indian players were subjected to abuses after losing three consecutive matches. However, the team stood together, regrouped, and fought their way to the summit clash. S
