The Phillies face several free-agent questions of their own before they can address the players they might want to bring in.

First and foremost is whether they can sign Kyle Schwarber to a new contract after he hit a National-League high 56 home runs and drove in 132 runs. The designated hitter clearly out-performed his previous deal of four years, $79 million.

But Schwarber should have many suitors, some who might try to price out the Phillies, even though he will be 33 years old next season and is strictly a designated hitter.

But it's also clear that the Phillies have to get better in order to overtake the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League, even though they won 96 games last season, their most since winning 102 games in 2011.
