Final payments will be made to over a million people by the DWP in early 2026 before certain benefits are scrapped forever.

Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) is being phased out and will no longer be paid beyond March.

It is being replaced by Universal Credit (UC) but claimants must apply for this themselves before a crucial deadline.

The switchover process will not be automatic.

All affected claimants who get ESA, either on its own or alongside Housing Benefit, should now have received their 'migration notice' letters.
