(NEW YORK) — Two more individuals have been charged in connection with the robbery at the Louvre Museum last month, according to the Paris Public Prosecutor’s office. This brings the total number of suspects charged in the case to four. The newly charged suspects, a 37-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman, both denied their involvement in the crime. They face charges of organized robbery and conspiracy to commit organized robbery and have been remanded into custody. Three of the five people arrested on October 29 have since been released from custody, prosecutors confirmed. On October 19, a group of four masked thieves executed a brazen daytime heist at the Louvre, stealing eight pieces of jewelry valued at approximately $102 million. The robbery, which took place in the Apollo Gallery, lasted less than eight minutes and has led to a national outcry and a widespread manhunt. The stolen jewels remain missing. Last week, one suspect was apprehended at Charles de Gaulle Airport while attempting to board a flight to Algeria. Another suspect was detained as he was preparing to travel to Mali. The investigation continues as authorities work to piece together the details of the heist. The 37-year-old man charged recently is known to law enforcement for previous robbery offenses. The 34-year-old suspect, who was arrested at the airport, had been living in France since 2010 and was known to police for traffic violations. Investigators reportedly found his DNA on a scooter used during the escape. Another suspect, a 39-year-old man, was arrested at his home in Aubervilliers. He has a history of theft and is linked to the crime through DNA found on a glass display case that held the stolen jewels. Authorities are continuing their efforts to locate the missing jewelry and gather more evidence in this high-profile case.
