The northern and southern Taurid meteor showers will peak in November

The southern Taurids are no different than the northern Taurids, except that they peak at a different time

The Taurid meteor shower, also known as the Halloween fireballs, is about to peak, just a little bit past Halloween.

The meteor shower, which is actually two t he northern and southern Taurids, is known for producing large, slow-moving shooting stars.

"The Taurids are rich in fireballs, so if you see a Taurid it can be very brilliant and it'll knock your eyes out, but their rates absolutely suck," NASA meteor expert Bill Cooke told Space.com. "It's simply the fact that when a Taurid appears it's usually big and bright." Typically, the Taurids produce only a handful of visible meteors per hour.
