ANN ARBOR, Mich. — If the last bye week was a chance to regroup and get better, this one should be reserved for getting healthy.

Michigan narrowly beat Purdue, 21-16, on Saturday to help keep its postseason hopes alive, but it did so without several injured starters.

Running back Justice Haynes, the Big Ten’s leading rusher, linebackers Jimmy Rolder and Cole Sullivan, and safety Rod Moore were all ruled out pregame.

Then, one play into the game, linebacker Jaishawn Barham departed with an upper-body injury and never returned.

“Great time,” head coach Sherrone Moore said of the timing of Michigan’s second bye week. “That’s football, though. Football in the Big Ten — guys are going to get dinged up. I don’t think any team is going to be completely healthy right now.”
