It had been one of those days. A stressful start with a toddler resisting everything he was being told, followed by a busy day at work.

I had barely had a chance to think, or get properly excited, about what was coming up as I drove to pick up my friend on a mid-week afternoon. We had been invited to stay at Whatley Manor, which describes itself as "one of the top luxury hotels in the Cotswolds".

About a 45-minute drive from East Bristol, the 5* hotel near Malmesbury was easy to reach - but still gave that feeling of getting away. I was slowly but surely feeling less frazzled as I got further away from the city and drove more into the countryside.
