A speeding ambulance crashed into motorcycles that were waiting at a traffic signal in central Bengaluru

on Saturday night, killing a couple and injuring two others, the police said.

The incident took place around 11.15 pm on Double Road in Shanthinagar when the ambulance was heading from a direction where the traffic signal lights were red, the Wilson Garden traffic police said. The ambulance, carrying the sticker of Cloud Nine Hospital, rammed into several two-wheelers before colliding with a police outpost.

Ismail, 40, and his wife Sameen Banu, 33, who were on a Honda Dio scooter, died in the incident, the police said, adding that two others—Riyan and Siddiq—were injured and admitted to a hospital. The couple were residents of Someshwara Nagar in Bengaluru .
