JASPER COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) - Jasper County deputies announced a homeowner found one of the monkeys that escaped from a truck after a crash.

According to investigators, a homeowner on Highway 503 near Heidelberg found one of the monkeys on his property on November 2, 2025. They said the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP) responded to the scene, and the monkey is now in their possession.

At least two monkeys are still missing after a truck crashed in Jasper County on October 28, 2025. The crash occurred on Interstate 59 north of Heidelberg. Bait and traps have been placed along the wreck site.

Jasper County Sheriff Randy Johnson said the driver of the truck initially told his deputies the monkeys were carrying infectious diseases, including hepatitis. Tulane
