OXFORD, Miss. — Didn’t expect South Carolina to win. Nobody would, considering the Gamecocks’ offensive problems and that Ole Miss’ entire mantra is to turn every opponent mistake into a score.
Yet South Carolina managed to make it even more excruciating. Just like Alabama last week, the Gamecocks had a chance to win.
Perhaps it’s a good thing that it didn’t end up being that close, as two weeks in a row would have had some considering voodoo to get whatever hex it is off this season.
It is no curse. It’s just poor, poor football.
“We got this thing to the fourth quarter, just like we wanted to,” USC coach Shane Beamer said. “Plays are there. We got to make them.”
USC trailed 20-14 in the fourth. Against Alabama, LaNorris Sellers fumbled in a tie game, and that’s what lost it.
