ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Atlanta is gearing up to host eight matches in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including a semi-final on July 15, as the global soccer tournament prepares to kick off on June 11.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced $625 million in grants this week to help host cities strengthen security, emergency response and cybersecurity at stadiums, hotels, and transportation hubs.
Officials warn the 2026 World Cup is expected to be the largest sporting event in history, with millions of fans traveling to U.S. cities, including Atlanta, for the month-long tournament.
