Situation about halfway between Calgary and Edmonton, Gasoline Alley may be one of the busiest highway rest stops in Alberta — for now.

Red Deer County has big plans for a truck stop just moments away, called Junction 42. It's located east of Penhold.

This year marked major milestones for Junction 42 with the completion of a significant roundabout and parking lot expansion, that added 50 new parking spaces for trucks, a roundabout at the intersection of Junction Drive and Highway 42, and a new EV charging station.

The project began to come to life in 2018, when Alberta Transportation closed the service road leading to Gasoline Alley, making it hard for truckers to stop there.
