PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A man was arrested after allegedly speeding away from a traffic stop and causing a rollover crash outside Sky Harbor International Airport on Sunday morning.
At about 1 a.m., a Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputy was working a DUI Task Force near the Loop 202 Red Mountain and Priest Drive when he tried to stop a vehicle for speeding over 120 miles per hour.
Deputies say the driver then accelerated toward Sky Harbor. As the deputy tried to catch up, he was forced to hold off due to the airport’s speed limit and turned off his lights and sirens.
Because the airport is a large loop, the deputy was unable to turn around or change directions. Not long after, the driver crashed about a half-mile ahead of the deputy, outside of the Terminal 3 ticket and bag check ar
